Run5 Forum Rules
Run5 Philosophy
Here at Run5 we aim to build a Community in support of SSG's Decisive Battles of World War II Series. As part of building the community we expect every member of the community to treat each other with respect and courtesy. Whilst we support free speech, we dont not condone or encourge any posts and behaviours which are seen other users may find offensive. As a general rule we expect everyone to get along, be supportive and be friendly. If you cant do that then you may as well fine some other Board to visit. As a general rule, Run5 staff will do not expect to moderate posts - if you dont think you should be doing something or posting something - then dont do it. Its simple.

When not to Quoting in a Reply
Try not to quote in a reply if it is not necessary. Quoting can sometimes provide overheads on the Forums - both in terms of bandwidth and storage space. Do not quote from messages immediately proceeding your reply.

Signatures (SIGS) and Avatars
Sigs and Avatars are available to all registered users. Im a similar vain to quoting, please be mindful of the overheads that extensive Sigs can provide on the forums. Please limit the size of your sigs to no more then a few lines of text, a small graphic, or for displaying your Run5 Medals and or listing your PBEM games. You can reduce the size of your sigs by using the size code your sig text here to reduce your sig font. When you post a message you have the option to either include or exclude your sig in the post. Please exclude your sig from small and/or multiple posts. PBEM Rules
How can I find other people to play?
The PBEM Forum can be used to seek potential PBEM opponents. If you are looking for opponents then post a message in the forum stating what scenario and game settings you would like to play with and what skill level you are looking to play against (newbie, novice, expert). Alternatively, have a look at the player standings at Run5 Combat Leagues Ladder (http://www.combatleagues.net/) and challange someone!
Is there a PBEM Ladder and how do I join?
The official Run5 PBEM Ladder is located at http://www.combatleagues.net/ Simply go to the site and sign up! Players are responsible for reporting their own games.
Reporting a Game on the Ladder
You can only report a game on the Run5 Combat Leagues Ladder is both players to the PBEM are registered on the ladder. Agreement should be obtained from BOTH players that the results of the game will be reported to the ladder prior to the game commencing. Generally the winner of the game is reponsible for reporting the game to the ladder.
Are there any other PBEM ladders?
There is also a ladder located at The Blitz (http://www.theblitz.org). DBWWII games are located under the Classic Wargame Ladder.
Can I report a Game on both Ladders?
Yes - so long as the players are registered on both ladders there is no reason why PBEM games cant be cross reported to both ladders!
Do I always have to play in Secure mode?
No. The game settings and the scenario that you play are entirely up to you and your opponent. Play with whatever settings are best for you.
What is Bidding?
Bidding is when you or your opponent assign a headstart or advantage to the other player. This is generally done to even up a game. For example the two players skills levels may be uneven, so the more experienced player may give the other player an advantage of 100 Victory Points, or maybe +1 to replacements or supply. Any Bidding arrangements should be agreed to in an email prior to the commencement of the game. A head start of VPs should simply be added to the final scenario score at the end. +1 Replacements or Supplies should be set via the Game Options at game set up time.
Do I get any Medals for PBEM Play?
Yes, but only for play on the official Run5 Combat Leagues Ladder. If you win 5 games in a row, your rating will change to HOT! When you get a HOT rating you may apply for the Hot Medal to showcase your achievements.
I am trying to play a PBEM game but I keep getting a 'Header Error'
Header Errors occur when a PBEM game file becomes corrupt. Ask your PBEM buddy to resent your PBEM file again, make sure that they send you the file for the correct turn and side (axis or allies). Ensure that you are running the same version of the game as your opponent (most header errors relate to players using different versions of the game or sending the wrong file to their opponets)
How long do I have to completed a PBEM/Ladder game?
There are no time limits relating to general PBEM or Ladder games. Although you should generally agree upon turn around times with your opponent prior to the game commencing.
I havent hard from my opponent for a while
Players should always seek to keep other players informed of instances where they may be unable to keep to agreed turn around times. If you are going out of town on business or holidays - then simply email your opponent and let me know. Players should use the COMMENT field in their User Profile here on the Run5 Forums to notate any period that they expect they will be unavailable to complete their turns. If you havent heard from your opponent for a while, then send them an email and check to see if they received your last turn and check their whereabouts. If they fail to respond to your emails and if the PBEM game is a Ladder game then contact either of the Ladder Moderators.

Dont Boast Too Loudly
There is nothing worse then singing your praises too loudly. If you are a good player then lets your record speak for itself, people dont want to hear how good you are at x scenario all the time. Let other people sing your praises for you, you dont need to do it yourself. Remember there is always someone better out there then you are!
Dont Mock other Players Abilities
Run5 caters for a wide range of players with varying skills and abilities. Don't mock or critisize a players PBEM performance or battlefield experience - it doesnt matter who they are, no one deserves to be made a fool of. So if you beat someone in a PBEM game then pat yourself on the back quietly. You should never ever mock a player publically about their skills and or abilitis. You wouldnt like it to happen to you.

Are there any restrictions on what Images I can upload?
Yes there. Apart from any content which other users may find offensive, you should also only upload images which are appropriate to Run5 and that is not off topic. The purpose of the Album is so that Run5 Users can upload screen shots taken from within any of the games that they are playing. You may have executed a superior move which you want to display, or alternatively you may found yourself in a very difficult situation which other people may be interested in seeing. The uploading of illegal, offensive or off topic images may result in your account being deleted and banned.
What Format and Size should the Image be?
All Images should be converted to JPG files prior to being uploaded. Furthermore files should be kept to less then 1 Meg in size and no more then 800 x 800 pixels in size. If you image is larger then this, then you will need to crop, resize or increase the JPEG compression of the file prior to uploading it.
How do I Export an Image from within the Game?
There are several ways of obtaining an image from within the game. You may simply press the PRT SCR key on your keyboard to print the screen to the clipboard and then paste the contents into a blank document within a graphics/paint program, or whilst you are in the game you may press the CNTRL-P key which will create a map dump into your game folder.
Is there anything else I should know about Exporting/Dumping the Image?
Yes, when you dump an image from within the game with the Cnt-P key, the image file that is create will be an exact copy of the map at the time the keys are pressed. That means if you have the supplied hexes overlay turned on, then this will show up in your image. So therefore, you should set the map options to those that you want to appear in the image dump. Ie: If you want town names on the map, enable them. It is recommended that you turn the Hex overlay off before you dump/export the map, it provides for better image quality. You can toggle the hex overlay on and off by pressing the H key from within the game.
How do I edit and Resize the Image?
You will need to load the image into a graphics/paint program to edit it. Generally it is better to crop an image to size rather then resize it. When you resize the image the paint/graphic program redraws the image and this can result in a loss of quality. It the image you want to upload is quite large, it is usually better to crop it into 2 or more images rather then resizing it.
How do I Save the Image as a JPG?
After croping/resizing your image within your paint/graphic program, select Save As, and then select the JPEG or JPG format. Saving the JPG format allows you to compress the image, the larger your image, the lower you should set the quality setting so that the compression rates are higher. JPG quality is quite good even at the lower settings - so long as you have cropped your image and not resized it.
